## The story

The ballgame was fine, but the real prize was the sundae in a miniature batting helmet. Vanilla soft serve, chocolate syrup, rainbow sprinkles and a flat wooden spoon that splintered by the third bite. Afterward you rinsed the helmet at the drinking fountain and kept it on the shelf next to your trophies for years.

## Fun fact

Some kids collected a helmet in every team color, stacking them into wobbly towers on their dressers.
