## The story

Friday public skate at the Frosty Blade meant rental skates that never quite fit and a speaker system blasting the top forty. Beginners clung to the boards while show-offs skated backward in baggy jeans. Every hour the ice resurfacer rolled out and everyone pressed against the glass to watch it make the ice perfect. Hot cocoa from the machine burned every tongue.

## Fun fact

The Frosty Blade's resurfacer driver, Earl, waved at the crowd every lap like he was leading a parade.
