The story of Free Sample Fudge
Every Saturday the fudge stall had a line longer than the one for kettle corn. The fudge came in thick slabs labeled on a chalkboard in curly handwriting, with flavors like salted maple, lavender honey and pumpkin chai. Free samples on toothpicks went fast, and somehow you always left with three squares you never planned to buy.
The lavender flavor tasted a little like soap to kids, which grown-ups flatly refused to admit.
