The story of Homebrain 36K
The Homebrain 36K came with a manual full of programs you typed in yourself, line by line, for hours. One typo and the bouncing rocket game just printed SYNTAX TROUBLE. Loading from tape took eleven minutes of screeching, so kids learned patience, then learned to make their names scroll down the screen forever.
The 36K stood for kilobytes, though the ad agency insisted it stood for thirty-six thousand kinds of fun.
