The story of Room-to-Room Intercom
Houses with the Room-to-Room Intercom felt like spaceships. Parents used it to announce dinner. Kids used it to broadcast fake news bulletins, burp into the kitchen and whisper spooky messages into a sibling's bedroom at midnight. Every panel had a radio, so one press could flood the whole house with a song at full volume.
The monitor button let you secretly listen to another room, which was the single most abused feature in suburban history.
