The story of Slide-a-Channel Cable Box
The Slide-a-Channel sat on top of the TV with a cord stretched across the living room carpet like a tripwire. You chose a row with the slider, then mashed a button, and it clunked loud enough to wake the baby. Whoever held the clicker controlled the night, which made the couch a very competitive place.
Tripping on the cord sent the box sliding off the TV so often that families tied it down with shoelaces.
