The story of Humdinger Whistles
A roll of Humdinger Whistles was the loudest thing you could buy for a quarter. Each candy had a hole through the middle that whistled if you held it just right between your lips. Five kids with Humdingers on one bus ride was enough to make the driver pull over, which somehow made them taste even better.
Expert tooters could play two notes by tilting the candy, and one kid per school could do the entire birthday song.
