The story of Mystery Patty Wednesday
The menu said Protein Patty. Kids said Mystery Patty. Nobody could agree if it was chicken, beef, fish or something invented by scientists. It was breaded, rubbery and perfectly round, and it came with a mound of potato coins and a fruit cup. Every Wednesday, the ketchup pump ran empty by noon.
A rumor that every patty came from one secret factory inside a mountain was believed by the entire fifth grade.
