On snowy mornings, the whole family huddled around the kitchen TV watching school names crawl by in alphabetical order. If your school started with W, you suffered. Kids screamed when their school appeared, groaned at a two-hour delay, and stared in disbelief when it went right past. It was the most exciting text on television.
