The story of Swapshell Faceplates
Swapshell faceplates hung on spinning racks at every mall kiosk, in flame patterns, sparkles, translucent colors and glow-in-the-dark. Popping off the old cover meant prying with a fingernail and praying the buttons didn't scatter across the floor. Teens changed them to match outfits, moods and crushes, and some owned more faceplates than shirts.
The rubber button pads underneath loved to escape, and every couch hid at least one stray number five.
