The story of Totally Waffle

It started when a kid in the back of the bus called his new sneakers totally waffle, and by midyear it was everywhere. A great skateboard trick was totally waffle. A double-scoop cone was mega waffle. Something lame was pancake, which hurt more than any insult. Parents tried saying it once at breakfast, and the whole family agreed it was over.

The highest possible compliment was extra syrup, reserved for things like snow days and pizza-for-lunch Fridays.
