The story of Toast or Bust

The giant chrome toaster on Toast or Bust was the size of a station wagon, and every correct answer pushed the lever down one notch. When it popped, a prize card shot into the air and the host caught it in a butter dish. Burnt toast meant you went home with a year of strawberry jam.

Contestants were allowed to eat the prop toast, and one grandpa ate eleven slices during a single taping.
