The story of Puka Shell Choker
Puka shell chokers were the official uniform of anyone who wanted to look like they surfed. The shells came from a bin at the beach shop, but in a landlocked town they felt exotic. Boys wore them with board shorts and frosted tips; girls wore them with tank tops and flip-flops. They clinked softly when you laughed.
Shell necklaces were so popular that some students wore three and called it a sunset.
