The story of Butter Pump Bucket

The pro technique was the layer method: fill a third, pump butter, fill another third, pump again, top it off, final pump. Do it right and every handful glistened all the way to the bottom. Do it wrong and you got a butter swamp that soaked through the cardboard and left a shiny ring on your jeans all movie long.

Theater kids claimed the butter pump gave a secret extra-long squirt if you held it down for exactly five seconds.
