The story of Hallway Eavesdish
The Eavesdish looked like a satellite dish glued to a flashlight handle. You pointed it at your sister's room, slipped on the headphones and heard mostly the refrigerator humming. Every once in a while it caught something juicy, like who was getting pizza at the sleepover. Older siblings learned to whisper into it directly, just to scare you.
Pointed at the sky, it mostly picked up crickets, airplanes and the neighbor's lawn mower from three houses down.
