The story of Nights & Weekends Cellular
Parents bought the Nights & Weekends Cellular for emergencies only, which somehow included calling Grandma on Sunday. Daytime minutes cost a fortune, so the whole family waited until nine o'clock to dial. It had a monochrome green screen, a ringtone like an angry cricket and an antenna you pulled up to look important.
At 8:59 every night, teens across town sat with thumbs hovering over the call button, waiting.
