The story of Dial-Up Bean Cafe
The Bean had mismatched couches, chess sets and four beige towers in the back corner with a sign-up clipboard. You paid at the counter, waited for the dial-up shriek, and spent your thirty minutes in a chat room or printing song lyrics. College kids drank giant mugs of foam, and middle schoolers ordered hot chocolate to look sophisticated.
The Bean's slowest computer was nicknamed Grandpa, and loading one picture on it took the length of a whole latte.
