The story of Fastball Cage Nine
Cages one through eight threw softballs and slow pitches for normal humans. Cage nine was different: the machine hissed, the arm whipped, and the ball arrived before you finished blinking. Kids fed tokens into it all summer while their pals watched from the fence and judged. The one kid who finally connected got his photo on the snack shack wall.
Cage nine's pitching machine was nicknamed the Toaster because it launched balls like burnt bread popping up.
