The story of Sleepaway Canoe Week
At Hollowpine Lake, canoe week was the stuff of legend. Each cabin loaded aluminum canoes with sleeping bags, pots and an alarming amount of trail mix, then paddled to Turtle Island. Counselors led sing-alongs, raccoons stole the marshmallows, and you came home with a sunburned nose and a story you told for a year.
Every canoe at Hollowpine had a name painted on the bow, and the leakiest one was called Optimism.
