The story of Midnight Release Line
By nine the line wrapped past the food court, full of kids in homemade capes, foam crowns and cardboard armor. People played card games on the floor, traded theories and shared a single bag of chips with strangers. At 11:59 the whole line counted down like New Year's, and the first person out the door held up their copy like a trophy.
Store managers handed out numbered wristbands, and losing yours at 11:58 was the most stressful moment of the decade.
