The story of Orange Slice Halftime
Every Saturday the rec fields filled with tiny players in jerseys down to their knees, chasing the ball in one big clump. Parents lined the sidelines in folding chairs with travel mugs and umbrellas. At halftime someone's mom opened a cooler of orange slices, and every kid wore an orange peel smile. After the game came snack bags and a team cheer.
Kids remembered exactly whose parent brought the best after-game snack for years, but nobody ever remembered a single score.
