The story of Velvet Kettle Open Mic
The Velvet Kettle put a stool and a microphone in the corner every Thursday, and the clipboard filled up fast. Kids in side-swept bangs and studded belts played songs about lockers and rainy bus rides. Somebody always read a poem that rhymed orange with door hinge. Parents waited in the parking lot with the engine running.
The Velvet Kettle's open mic stool wobbled so badly that regulars called it part of the act.
