The story of Slot Car Thunder Hobbies
The front of the shop sold model rockets, paint pots and train kits, but everybody came for the back room. The eight-lane track had a banked curve called the Corkscrew, and you rented a lane by the half hour. Kids tuned their cars at a workbench that smelled of paint and hot motors. Saturday races got so loud the owner wore earmuffs.
A slot car that flew off the Corkscrew once landed in the owner's coffee, and he framed it on the wall.
